FAQ

  • I'm worried about looking silly or having to fight, should I be?"
No! Look, we all started out as beginners once, we're all in class working together, no-one looks silly! As for getting having to fight, it's your first class! We will introduce you to the basics, settle you in, work you to your current ability, but you won't have to fight anyone.
  • Do I have to be in good shape before I start?
No, you will get into shape as you train. We have a series of exercises that you will learn as you progress through the ranking system which will enable you to perform the various required techniques.
  • I am 31 years old, am I too old to start martial arts?"
No, you are not too old to begin martial arts training. We regularly have students start from adolecense through their 50's and older. All we ask is that you work to your own ability, push your own individual limits and aim to find new ones.
  • I am very busy with my work schedule, how much time do I need to devote to kenpo classes?"
Two classes a week are recommended, as is practicing at home. As you progress through the ranks if you want more training time, we offer additional membership types to suit. We also understand that life sometimes throws up unexpected challenges, we aim to be as flexible as possible with attendance.
  • How long does it take to get a black belt?
How long is a piece of string? Joking aside, it's impossible to say for sure, however, most students achieve Black Belt in around 5 to 6 years.
  • What sort of things should I consider when choosing a school?
Do they have a traceable history? Are they affilated with any recognised governing bodies or supporting groups? Sometimes just a simple 'Google Search' of the Instructor is all thats needed. If you keep turning up blanks or nothing but adverts, it's time to move on! Here at CJMAA we have traceable training history all the way back to the 1980's.
